Kenneth Mai - Our Team
Kenneth Mai
Kenneth grew up in Mesa, Arizona, USA, the son of two teachers originally from Guangzhou, China. Influenced by their example, he eventually chose to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in education.Growing up in an immigrant family, Kenneth was surrounded by different languages from a young age and grew intrigued by the connections he saw between Spanish and French, as well as Cantonese and Mandarin.
After graduating from Harvard with a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Kenneth had the opportunity to serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Taitung, Taiwan, where he had his first taste of working as a teacher. Since then, he has worked in special education and multilingual learner education across primary and secondary schools in the states of New York, Massachusetts, and Washington, along the way earning a Master of Arts in Teaching. Kenneth is excited to bring the lessons he has learned through each experience into his new role here at Bloom.
As an educator, Kenneth believes that all students deserve engaging, accessible, and affirming instruction. He strives to design lessons in a way that nurtures students’ inherent curiosity and guides them to draw connections between different ideas. Additionally, Kenneth works to ensure instruction is accessible to all students so that everyone feels ownership of their learning and belonging in the classroom.
Beyond the classroom, Kenneth enjoys exploring food, travel, and languages. He looks forward to discovering more about Hong Kong’s diverse stories, and experiencing the city’s many cafés and restaurants!
