BNN News - Week of April 28th, 2025 (1/2)

Bloom KKCA Academy

Hello and welcome back to another week of BNN News! My name is Olivia.

And my name is Jacob, and here is your news for this week.

May is Mental Awareness Month. This month, students across all grades are taking part in a special pilot program to support emotional well-being. Each morning, students are doing a quick emotional check-in, giving them a chance to think about how they are feeling and share if they need any extra support. Throughout the month, external vendors and mental health experts will be visiting our school to run workshops and activities for students across all grades, focusing on strategies for wellness, self-awareness, and resilience. It is all part of our commitment to make sure everyone feels safe, heard, and cared for.

Recently, the BNN News team had a very special field trip to the Bloomberg News Studio in Hong Kong. We were invited to visit after Bloomberg learned about the work our student news team had been doing and wanted to give us a firsthand look at how professional news is made. Students entered the control booth to watch a live broadcast go on air and see how different crew members, like teleprompter operators, camera operators, and producers, work together to run a show. We also met news anchors Mr. David Ingles, Ms. Minmin Low, and Ms. Annabelle Droulers, who shared what it is really like to work in broadcast news, including early wake-up times, makeup, and the path to becoming a news anchor. One of the highlights of our visit was getting to ask questions about the many roles in a newsroom. Students learned about what it is like to be an intern, how teleprompters are operated, and what goes into producing a daily live show. We even had a chance to show off our very own BNN News broadcast. We were proud to share what we have been creating right here in school. It was amazing to see how much of what we do in BNN connects to what professionals do every day.

A huge thank you to everyone at Bloomberg News Studio for welcoming us and giving us such an inspiring experience.

In Grade 4, students have been busy working on their ELA ECS unit called “What’s on the Menu.” This term, students explored healthy and sustainable food, learning all about nutrition and how the choices we make can impact our health and the planet. The highlight of the unit was a special project where students transformed regular recipes into healthier, more sustainable versions. Working in small groups, students created their own recipes, shopped for ingredients, and cooked their dishes from start to finish. This project helped students practice creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Great job, Grade 4! Your hard work and teamwork really paid off.

That is it for this week. Thank you for watching, and we will see you again next week!
